Your Daily Computer Security Tip

The Better Business Bureau Scam is Back!
The ol? Better Business Bureau scam is back, this time in the form of a corrupted Word document. It is aimed at businesses again, and comes in the form of an email supposedly from the BBB. The email says there has been a complaint about your business, and open the attached Word document to get the details.
At first glance, the attachment looks like a pdf file, but if you see the full filename you will discover it is no such thing. If you open the attachment, a keylogging program will install itself on your computer, and send your every keystroke to a server in Malaysia.
Do not open the attachment. Regular readers of these Tips know by now never to open unexpected attachments, and to always view the full name and extension of files. We have covered this before, but here again is how to set your computer to always view full filenames.
Windows hides file extensions by default. This keeps things fairly simple for you, but could be dangerous. Say you are about to download a file named news.doc.exe. If the true file extension is hidden, you will see only news.doc, and think it is a MS Word file, when in fact it is an application, or program.
To set Windows to always show the full file extension, click Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View. Clear the check box marked “Hide extensions for known file types”. Click Apply, OK.
Now be a friend and send this to everyone you know who operates a business, whether online or off.
